Call it by any name: a guest ranch, a dude ranch, a resort ranch, a working cattle ranch, or a fly fishing ranch- it all means fun.
From the moment you arrive, you’ll start experiencing your own real-life Rocky Mountain high--most of the state sits at 5,000 feet in elevation or higher. The Continental Divide draws a jagged line through this state, leaving Colorado’s eastern guest ranches with rolling hills and golden plains, while those in the western half are set in sweeping vistas of forested mountains seemingly reaching for the sky. Mountain resort towns like Crested Butte, Snowmass, Telluride, and Vail are all near at hand.
The air is crisp and fresh--if a bit thin at first, for those coming from sea level. It just means that you’ll want to take things slow and easy for the first day or so. That’s fine, because this scenic and awe-inspiring country is best introduced the slow way: from the saddle, from an easy chair on a ranch cabin porch, or with a fishing pole in your hand. Spend time at a Colorado ranch resort and you’ll discover the best of the high country, along with some of the finest Western hospitality you’ll ever find.
Combine your stay with a stop at historic towns (with famed ski hills) like Aspen, Breckenridge, or Steamboat Springs, roam around Boulder, or hit year-round resorts like Copper Mountain and Vail. Add on a whitewater rafting adventure on the Colorado River or the Arkansas River to your visit, or cast a line for trophy trout on the S. Platte River. No matter which Colorado ranch vacation you choose, there’ll be plenty to do on the property and nearby.
Want a laid-back dude ranch vacation? Join a lazy horseback ride into groves of quaking aspen, try your hand at top-notch fly-fishing, or just kick back in the glow of a roaring campfire. Many Colorado dude and guest ranch resorts boast an array of heart-thumping sports: rock climbing, a cattle drive some of the best skiing in the country, snowboarding and snowmobiling, mountain biking, hiking, swimming, boating, water skiing, and river rafting (which can range from white-water thrills to quiet floats through spectacular canyons).
Fly into major airports at Denver or Colorado Springs, hop a regional airline into Aspen, Durango, or Vail; all have shuttle services or car rentals to get you to your next stop. Check out the unique dude ranch properties here on ColoradoDudeRanches.com You’ll find old-fashioned hospitality, and even an echo of the Old West awaits you.
